On the Nightstand Aug/Sept

So many good books it is hard to choose which to read first. I am still trying to decide if I should read Atomic Habits or Building a Story Brand first?

A Court of Thorns and Roses by Sarah J. Maas

If you follow me on Twitter you know that as of writing this I am 60% of the way through A Court of Thorns and Roses. I had heard about this book and its reputation for being "fairy porn". Even though I had high hopes, I had put off reading it due to not being in the mood for a fantasy romance. After finishing Eragon and hoping for a bit of romance between Eragon and the elf Arya I decided to finally pick up A Court of Thorns and Roses.

I like the premise of the story. A wealthy human family forced into poverty and the youngest daughter, the main character Feyre, makes an oath to her dying mother to keep the family together and provide for them. Years pass and life for the family only gets harder. One winter day Feyre is out hunting for food and spots a deer. Before she can let loose an arrow a giant wolf catches her attention. She kills wolf in order to take the deer and feed her family. The wolf ended up being a fae. A day later, a large and powerful fae bursts into Feyre's shack of a home and demands payment for killing a fae without being provoked. He gives her the choice of dying or living the rest of her life in the world of fae.

The following chapters are filled with internal struggle, external war, and beautiful men and scenery. Several scenes are very reminiscent of Beauty and the Beast. I would say that this book is more of a love story than steamy romance.

Eldest by Christopher Paolini

The second book in the Eragon series. I have not started reading this book yet but I look forward to see how Eragon grows as a dragon rider and warrior.

Atomic Habits by James Clear

I have had this book on my bookshelf for a while. Personal finance and self growth is a deep rabbit hole filled with many wonderful books, as well as many boring and too generic to be helpful books. At the time I ended up prioritizing finance books over self improvement and sadly Atomic Habits kept being pushed to the bottom of the pile. I am starting a 75 Hard (soft) and this time I am prioritizing business and self growth. I can't think of a better book to kick off a habit changing challenge than a book about forming habits.

Building a Story Brand by Donald Miller

As a budding entrepreneur, I have come across Building a Story Brand on several recommended book lists. All successful companies have a unified image or brand. Their marketing material tells a clear story that compels customers to take action. This book promises to teach the time proven Story Brand approach to marketing and branding.
